YMCA Lifeguard Training
Learn aquatic lifesaving skills and become a certified professional. This class includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid Basics, and Oxygen Administration.

Information About the Course
- Pre-course skills will be tested on the first day of the course.
- All classes include extra time for lunch/dinner.
- Bring a bathing suit, towel, cap, goggles, warm clothes to change into, and snacks.
- Participants will be expected to study all skills at home and be prepared to present those skills at any subsequent class.
- There is a comprehensive written and practical exam on the last day of the class. All participants must successfully complete this exam in order to receive certifications.
Pre-Course Skills Test
- Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
- 100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing
- 100 yards breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick, glide sequence
- 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke
- Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a ten pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object, and exit the water without using a ladder within one minute and forty seconds.
