The objectives of these orientations are to enhance one's knowledge of the proper use of weight machines, to provide information on the basic principles of weight training, to teach proper lifting techniques and provide safety tips. This program is great for returning exercisers.

    12 Week Personal Fitness Program  
   

The 12 week personalized fitness program is designed for health seeking individuals who are looking for guidance and structure in order to successfully begin a regular exercise program. This program includes both cardiovascular and strength training exercises. See the front desk to schedule an appointment.

    Pilates Studio Equipment Training  
   

Individual training on the Pilates Reformer, low chair and cadillac is available at the John A. Davis facility. Pilates equipment improves strength, flexibility, stability, and mobility. It improves posture and body alignment creating a taller, more confident stance. Pilates training creates long, lean muscles that are balanced and coordinated. Individual equipment training is very beneficial for people who need to improve muscular strength and joint stability. Athletes see improvements in their performance through the use of Pilates exercises.

Fitness Center Etiquette

  • Shirts and athletic shoes must be worn at all times
  • No food or drink (except for water in a sealed, non-breakable container)
  • Each participant must bring a towel to wipe up perspiration
  • For safety, children under age 12 are not permitted in the Fitness Center but may participate in group exercise classes that are noted for children, or in other classes with instructor approval. Children 7-12 years of age may participate in the Cameron Youth Fitness Center.
  • Cell phones are not to be used in the Fitness Center.

Fitness Center Age Policy

YMCA members age 15 and older have full use of the Wellness Center. A member age 12-14 must have a parent or guardian, who is also a member, present with them at all times unless the Teen Orientation has been completed. Members age 12-14 interested in using the weight room may take our three week Teen Orientation class. Upon successful completion of the written and practical tests, youth may use the weight room during staffed hours without direct parental supervision.
